Today, May 26th, is the debut public appearance of the Pittsburgh Food Policy Council!
The council’s purpose is to advocate for and act for a more socially equitable and sustainable food system.
There will be volunteers staffing a table from 11:00 am – 6:00 pm at the East End Food Co-op. All day 5% of sales will be donated to the Food Policy Council to help fund their work.
yumpittsburgh is launching a new service for area farms to help profile the farmers and their farms. Western Pa has a great diversity of small family farms which grow and process a great variety of delicious foods.
In case you have ever wondered who grew that delicious tomato, who packed your CSA box, or how that pastured egg made it to market, this is the series to watch out for. Meet the folks behind the food, see aspects of their operations, read about the intertwined histories of families and land, and farming philosophies. Posts will feature a combination of video, photos and writing.

yumpittsburgh is part of a Penn State project which strives to strengthen the local food infrastructure in Western Pa by connecting the supply and demand sides of our foodshed. This site will highlight timely info for and about farmers, food, events and resources in our community.
